Our entire Creative team were delighted to collaborate with Belfast’s prestigious Lyric Theatre in staging and capturing a theatrical production of Inferno21, a re-imaging of Dante’s epic 14th century poem.
On the 700th anniversary of his death, ‘Inferno21’ re-imagines Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece for the 21st century, with Hell presented as the Digital Landscape and social media and data collection providing a canvas for exploring contemporary human behaviours and transgressions.
Produced by Donal Shiels, filmed in 360, and with a host of additional Augmented Reality activations also integrated into the show itself, the performance area for inferno21 occupied the entire stage, with giant projections surrounding the cast.
An App for the show was then developed using a GPS-based ‘Treasure Hunt’ mechanic, creating a series of 9 portals, each featuring a scene from the Play, that can be ‘Found’ or ‘Hosted & Shared’ through the mobile device.
Upon finding these Portals, the Audience is virtually transported from their everyday life to the main stage of the Lyric, where they can experience a unique stage performance that re-imagines Dante’s masterpiece for the digital age.
Jimmy Fay, Executive Director at the Lyric said “I was bowled over by the potential of the Portals to tell stories, and like radio contributes to building the audience at an artist’s live music shows, I hope in turn that this App will motivate people to attend Live Theatre in person in the future”.
